The hotel welcomed its first guests on 17 March 2019 and occupies 43 floors of a 65-storey tower at Victoria Dockside, the mixed-use development on Salisbury Road in Kowloon.
The site carries family history. It was once Holt’s Wharf, dating to 1910, and later the New World Centre, created by Dr Cheng Yu-tung and Dr Henry Cheng, the grandfather and father of Rosewood Hotel Group chief executive Sonia Cheng. The tower’s exterior was designed by Kohn Pedersen Fox, while interiors are by Tony Chi and his New York studio, tonychi.
Rosewood Hong Kong has 413 rooms: 322 guestrooms starting at 53 square metres and 91 suites starting at 92 square metres, 18 of them signature suites. The largest, Harbour House on the 57th floor, measures 1,000 square metres. A further 186 Rosewood Residences were scheduled to launch in spring 2019, and the Manor Club executive lounge sits on the 40th floor.
Food and drink runs across eight venues, including Holt’s Café, the Cantonese restaurant The Legacy House, DarkSide bar, The Butterfly Room and The Butterfly Patisserie. Asaya, the brand’s integrative wellness concept, was set to open across two dedicated floors in autumn 2019, alongside an infinity pool and a fitness centre. Event space totals 3,200 square metres.
Art is part of the brief, with works by Henry Moore, Damien Hirst, Wang Keping and Wilson Shieh placed throughout the building. Sonia Cheng framed the project around Hong Kong‘s evolution from business centre to global cultural capital, with Victoria Dockside positioned between the harbour and the museums of West Kowloon. Details are on the Rosewood Hong Kong website.
