Raffles at Galaxy Macau Opens as an All-Suite Hotel in Cotai
The first Raffles in Macau opened on 25 August 2023 with about 450 suites in two towers linked by glass bridges, and a garden lobby under a 15-metre chandelier.
Raffles at Galaxy Macau welcomed its first guests on 25 August 2023, in a soft opening that was to be followed by a grand opening at the end of the year. It is the first Raffles in Macau and the seventh hotel brand at Galaxy Macau, the resort in Cotai whose golden towers and wave pool are among the best-known sights of the city. The hotel has about 450 rooms, all of them suites.
It occupies two towers on the eastern promenade of the resort, joined on every floor by a glass bridge, so that guests walk between them above a void. The interiors are in pale Statuario marble, with crystal chandeliers and a recurring peacock motif, a symbol of beauty and good fortune. Many suites have a private pool on a glazed terrace.
The lobby was designed as a winter garden, planted with ninety trees and some fifty thousand shrubs, under a chandelier fifteen metres long made of half a million crystals. Beside it, the Raffles Lounge & Terrace serves afternoon tea, with a trolley of éclairs, a pianist, and a bar for champagne and oysters. The Long Bar, the name that Raffles carries from its original hotel in Singapore, was designed here by Joyce Wang, the Hong Kong designer also responsible for the renovation of The Landmark Mandarin Oriental. A sushi and kappo restaurant by Masaaki Miyakawa, whose restaurant in Sapporo holds three Michelin stars, was announced to follow.
As elsewhere in the group, each suite is looked after by a butler. The art collection, on the theme of the four seasons in Asian nature, includes sculptures by Joris Kuipers, Sun Yu-Li and Latchezar Boyadjiev.
The opening was part of the third and fourth phases of Galaxy Macau, which also brought Andaz Macau and a large convention centre and arena, and it came in the year that visitors returned to the city in numbers. Its neighbours in Cotai include Wynn Palace and Morpheus. OKYTO’s page on Raffles at Galaxy Macau covers the stay.
