Mandarin Oriental Shenzhen Opens at UpperHills

The group's first hotel in Shenzhen takes the upper floors of a 79-storey SOM tower in Futian, with 178 keys and eight restaurants and bars.

Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group announced the opening of Mandarin Oriental, Shenzhen on 20 January 2022. The hotel occupies the upper floors of Tower One at UpperHills, a 79-storey building by SOM in the Futian district.

It has 178 rooms and suites. Standard rooms measure 56 to 76 square metres, and the 16 suites range from 114 to 400 square metres, with marble bathrooms, walk-in closets and Diptyque toiletries. The Mandarin Club, a private lounge with its own dining area, sits on the 78th floor.

Eight restaurants and bars opened with the hotel. The flagship is a Cantonese fine-dining room led by Michelin-starred Chef Fei, now known as The Bay by Chef Fei, and the other kitchens cover Chinese, Spanish, Japanese and French cooking. Later press material names them as OPUS 388 for French fine dining, RIN for Japanese teppanyaki and TAPAS 77 on the 77th floor.

MO Bar crowns the building on the 79th floor. According to the hotel, its cocktail list takes its cue from China’s 24 solar terms, and the bar has since featured on Asia’s 50 Best Bars.

The 1,500-square-metre spa on the 68th floor has seven treatment rooms, a 20-metre indoor pool and a vitality pool, next to a high-tech gym. For events, the hotel has The Gallery, a banquet space on the 77th floor, and The Cube, a free-standing 1,500-square-metre venue.

General manager Mark S. Bradford said at the opening: “We are delighted to bring Mandarin Oriental’s legendary hospitality to the exciting city of Shenzhen.” The group’s release is on the Jardines newsroom.
