Aisunao
A brown-rice vegetarian lunch spot in a century-old house in Naoshima's Honmura district, open since 2006.
Brown rice in a century-old house
Aisunao serves brown-rice vegetarian lunches and plant-based sweets in a renovated traditional house, about a hundred years old, in Naoshima’s Honmura district, on the Seto Inland Sea art islands. It has been open since 2006.
The signature Aisu Nao set is a brown-rice lunch with vegetables, with a vegan version, and the brown rice is grown without pesticides in Okayama. The house-made sweets contain no eggs or dairy: a rice-flour matcha cake and, in season, soy milk ice cream and sweet red bean soup. Uchi Japan also mentions goziru, miso soup thickened with soybean paste. It opens from 11 am, with last orders at 2.30 pm, and closes on Mondays and irregular holidays.
