The Restaurant

Il Fiore is on the 25th floor of the EITOWER, the tallest building in downtown Ulaanbaatar, in Sukhbaatar District. A blogger at Live2Makan visiting on a hosted business dinner called it the city’s newest and most talked-about restaurant. The pitch is Italian cooking with a skyline view.

The best dishes, in that account, are the meat: grilled bone marrow served with bread, and a grilled T-bone of very high quality, beefy and generous at 1.5 kg. The pizzas are recommended.

The Caveats

The same reviewer is candid about the rest. The seafood platter was underwhelming given how far Mongolia is from the sea, the caprese lacked fresh basil, and one unlisted dish went uneaten. Even so, a plain tomato and cucumber salad stood out, because fresh vegetables like these are scarce locally.

The verdict is that it is not a destination on cooking alone, but worthwhile for steak, pizza and the view. Opinions come from a single visit. See Mongolia for the wider picture.
