Why we recommend it
The Ritz-Carlton, Xi’an is the choice for travellers who want an international standard of service and facilities in one of China’s most historic cities. It is a contemporary hotel in the business district, and the references to Xi’an’s past are in the detail of the interiors, in patterns made by local artisans.
It suits business travellers with appointments in Gaoxin, and leisure visitors who prefer a full-service base, with several restaurants, a large spa and a pool, to a room inside the walls. Those who want the old city on the doorstep should look instead at Sofitel Legend People’s Grand Hotel Xi’an.
Rooms & Suites
The hotel has 283 rooms and suites, 31 of them suites, all with views over the city. Categories run from deluxe rooms to executive suites and a Presidential Suite. Club-level rooms and suites have access to the Club Lounge on the 23rd floor, which looks across the skyline of the district.
Dining
Jing Xuan is the Cantonese restaurant, with eight private dining rooms. Tasuro is built around Japanese teppanyaki, with six cooking stations, premium meats and a long sake list. Xian Kitchen is the all-day restaurant, serving local and international dishes from buffets and an à la carte menu.
Flair, the rooftop bar, has a 180-degree view of the city and serves cocktails alongside a sushi counter and South-East Asian small plates. The Lobby Lounge, which has a terrace, serves pastries and afternoon tea.
Design
The interiors are by Remedios Studio. The scheme blends contemporary design with traditional elements, and takes its local character from patterned motifs made by local artisans, which refer to the architecture, history and culture of Xi’an.
Wellness & Spa
The Ritz-Carlton Spa occupies a full floor, with a zen garden, suites for couples and a pool. Treatments draw on Chinese traditions and local ingredients; the signature treatment is called Silk Reviver. The hotel also has an indoor swimming pool, a fitness centre and a yoga studio.
Location
The hotel is at No. 50 Keji 2nd Road, in the business centre of the Gaoxin district. Gan Jia Zhai is the nearest metro station, and Xi’an Xianyang International Airport is about 36 kilometres away.
The city walls and the Great Wild Goose Pagoda are the main sights in town, and the day out to the Terracotta Warriors is described in OKYTO’s guide to the Terracotta Army. New arrivals in the city’s hotel scene are covered in the report on Upper House Xi’an, Shigeru Ban’s project beside the Small Wild Goose Pagoda. Within the brand in China, OKYTO also covers The Ritz-Carlton, Shenzhen. See also the Xi’an destination page.
