The Upper House Unveils the André Fu Suite
The designer who created the Swire Hotels property returns to convert a Level 48 penthouse into a residence with its own dining room and spa.
André Fu has returned to The Upper House, the Swire Hotels property in Hong Kong, to create a new private residence on Level 48. Swire Hotels unveiled the André Fu Suite on 4 March 2021, alongside a redesigned arrival floor.
The suite measures 1,960 square feet and was converted from a two-bedroom penthouse. The primary bedroom remains, while the second bedroom has become a dining room seating up to 20 guests, and the second bathroom has been turned into an in-suite spa area with twin massage beds.
Fu worked with a palette of mineral blue, dusty mink and pale ivory. Mid-century-inspired furniture with linear structures, a sculptural ottoman and porcelain tableware finished with artisan brush gilding come from his André Fu Living collection, while original hand sketches of the hotel and books from his personal library bring a personal layer. Swire Hotels calls the approach “relaxed luxury”, combining hotel service with residential comfort.
Fu also reworked the Level 4 arrival experience so that it reads more like a living room than a lobby. Looking back at the hotel’s debut, the designer noted that when Upper House first opened 11 years earlier, it “was considered the antithesis of what typically defines” an Asian luxury hotel.
According to DOTW News, nightly rates for the suite start at HK$60,000, with a package including Champagne breakfast for two, a 90-minute spa treatment, airport transfers and a gift from the André Fu Living collection. The hotel has 117 rooms in Hong Kong, and the Swire Hotels announcement has further detail.
