Announced by New World Development on 17 April 2019, the project was scheduled to open in the third quarter of 2019 on the Kowloon harbourfront.
K11 describes the concept as an “artisanal home”. Around 80 per cent of the residences are large suites with wraparound balconies and self-contained kitchens, designed for guests who stay for longer periods and want to live in the space rather than simply sleep in it.
The design team is substantial. Kohn Pedersen Fox designed the building, André Fu and his studio AFSO handled the interiors, and Bangkok-based P Landscape created the landscaping. Three penthouses were each given to a different designer: Joyce Wang of Hong Kong, Fiona Barratt of the UK and New York’s nemaworkshop.
Craft is the other thread. K11 ARTUS showcases guangcai, the Cantonese tradition of painted porcelain, with pieces by masters including Zhao Yiming and Tan Guanghui, working with the non-profit K11 Craft & Guild Foundation. Residents also have access to a Social Salon on the tenth floor, cultural salons and AMICI, a 24-hour digital concierge.
Dining is outsourced to the neighbourhood: room service draws on restaurants inside K11 MUSEA, the retail and cultural destination that forms part of the same Victoria Dockside development. Adrian Cheng called K11 ARTUS the group’s “re-imagination of an artisanal home” in Hong Kong. The residences are presented on the K11 ARTUS website.
