Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group announced on 22 April 2025 that Mandarin Oriental, Hong Kong, the group’s original hotel, will be renovated in a programme worth more than US$100 million. The work runs in four phases from the second quarter of 2025 to the end of 2026, and the hotel stays open throughout.

The announcement came with a parallel programme at Mandarin Oriental, Bangkok, making it the first time both founding properties have been renovated at the same time. The Hong Kong hotel opened in Central in 1963.

Three designers share the Hong Kong brief. Hubert de Malherbe is reworking the public spaces, including a new lobby and arrival sequence, an all-day lounge and a new Whisky Bar with a cigar divan. Jeffrey Wilkes is refreshing every guestroom and suite and adding 11 residential apartments, while Thierry Lemaire takes on the signature suites.

The food and drink line-up changes too. The Mandarin Grill + Bar is being refreshed, the Clipper Lounge expanded and the Cake Shop reimagined, with a new pizza counter by chef Daniele Cason and a revamped Krug Room. The group also plans a Daniel Boulud restaurant with a rooftop terrace at LANDMARK PRINCE’S.

Wellness gets a larger footprint, with an enhanced Mandarin Spa and Salon and a new Wellness Club concept, alongside upgraded event spaces.

In Bangkok, where work on the Authors’ and Garden wings was already under way, completion is due by the end of 2025, ahead of the hotel’s 150th anniversary celebrations in 2026. Anne-Sophie Pic takes over Le Normandie in the third quarter of 2025, Lord Jim’s moves to a partnership with Alex Dilling, and the fitness centre is being redesigned.
