Why we recommend it
Andaz Macau is the practical choice at Galaxy Macau. It is built for people attending a concert at the arena or an event at the convention centre, both of which it connects to directly, and it gives access to the resort’s pool deck. The neighbouring Raffles at Galaxy Macau, the all-suite hotel in the same resort, is the more formal option.
The design makes an effort to refer to the city beyond the resort, taking Old Taipa, the harbour and Macau’s local culture as its sources, and the minibars are stocked from a local bakery rather than from a catalogue. Old Taipa itself is close. For the opening, see our report on Andaz Macau opening at Galaxy Macau; for the wider picture, our essay on the hotels of Macau as architecture.
Rooms & Suites
The standard rooms measure about 35 square metres and come with a king bed or twin beds, some with a balcony. The Andaz Studio is a larger room with an expansive bathroom, and the Andaz Suite, at about 68 square metres, has a separate living and dining area with views towards Hengqin, Taipa or the golf course.
The palette is forest green and earthy orange, taken from the surrounding neighbourhood.
Dining
Andaz Kitchen, on the sixth level of the north tower, is the all-day restaurant, with live cooking stations for Chinese, Portuguese and Western dishes. Its room recalls the shophouses of old Macau, with Portuguese mosaic floors, wooden archways and a wall of blue-and-white ceramic plates titled Layers of Tradition.
Andaz Bar serves cocktails and craft beers from a local Macau brewery. Andaz Studio, a library-like room, is used for breakfast and for events and cooking classes, and Andaz Lounge is the hotel’s social space. The resort and the city offer a great deal more, as set out in OKYTO’s gastronomic guide to Macau.
Design
The interiors draw on Macau’s traditional architecture, the ships of its old harbour and local Chinese culture. Art is used to make the point. At the entrance, a wall installation called Landscapes Interlaced layers photographs of the Macau skyline with natural Chinese materials. Elsewhere there are sculptures patterned with hand-painted Portuguese tiles, mannequins in embroidered couture gowns and, in the lounge, a mother-of-pearl mosaic in the Portuguese manner.
Macau Steps is a staircase lined with more than a hundred videos that tell the city’s history, moving from busy streets at the foot to nature at the top.
Wellness & Spa
There is a 19-metre indoor pool, heated all year and lined with cabanas, and a 24-hour fitness centre with Technogym equipment. Guests have complimentary access to Galaxy Macau’s Grand Resort Deck, with its Skytop Wave Pool and Skytop Adventure Rapids.
Location
At Galaxy Macau in Cotai, between Old Taipa and Coloane, directly connected to the Galaxy International Convention Center and Galaxy Arena. The hotel has a dedicated check-in lounge for large groups and a boardroom of its own, with larger meetings held in the convention centre next door. See also OKYTO’s Macau destination page.
