Bánh Cuốn Gia Truyền Thanh Vân
A family banh cuon shop on Hàng Gà Street, active since the 1930s and a new Bib Gourmand in 2026.
Steamed rice rolls, made to order
Bánh Cuốn Gia Truyền Thanh Vân is a small shop on Hàng Gà Street whose owner, Thanh Vân, says her grandparents opened it in the 1930s. Local tour guides chose her bánh cuốn as the best street food in Hanoi in 2018 in Urban Adventures’ #streetfood50 awards, and it joined the Michelin Bib Gourmand list in 2026.
A very thin, almost opaque batter is ladled onto a hot pan and spread out, then lifted, filled and rolled like a crêpe. The fillings are mushrooms, pork and fried shallots, with a blend of spices. Banh cuon is eaten mostly for breakfast, though locals also have it as a late-night snack.
The shop is small and opens in the morning and evening. Menus are short.
