Why we recommend it

This is the Kyoto hotel built most explicitly around wellness. The spa, yoga and meditation give a stay a structure beyond sightseeing, and the programme draws on Japanese bathing culture and Zen-inspired ritual rather than imported formulas.

It is a city hotel, not a remote lodge, and the calm is inside the walls. The southern Higashiyama location places Sanjusangen-do and the Kyoto National Museum within walking distance. See our report on the opening and, for the wider field, Kyoto's decade of new hotels.

Location

The hotel is in southern Higashiyama, next to Toyokuni Shrine and within walking distance of Myoho-in, the Kyoto National Museum and Sanjusangen-do. Four Seasons Hotel Kyoto is nearby.
