The Karl Lagerfeld Hotel Opens in Macau
The late couturier's only hotel interiors project arrives at Grand Lisboa Palace, pairing Chinoiserie with tailored lines, a book lounge and commissioned art.

The 20-storey tower in Cotai holds around 270 rooms and suites and is the second of the resort’s three hotels to open, following the main Grand Lisboa Palace Macau tower in July.
Karl Lagerfeld, long associated with Chanel and Fendi, died in February 2019. He had worked closely with SJM on the hotel’s design for several years, making it his final interior design project.
The interiors combine modern Chinoiserie with traditional craftsmanship, setting bold colours and patterns against the clean, tailored silhouettes that defined his fashion. Personal references run throughout: a large sculpture of his cat, Choupette, stands in the lobby, and room keys carry the designer’s silhouette.
Beyond the rooms, the Book Lounge holds some 4,000 hand-picked books. The hotel also displays specially commissioned works by Dutch designer Marcel Wanders and French artist Jean-Michel Othoniel, with chandeliers by Terzani. Dining includes Mesa, with cuisine by Portuguese chef José Avillez, and a spa and wellness centre offers indoor and outdoor pools.
SJM chairman Daisy Ho described Grand Lisboa Palace as “the first integrated resort to introduce a fashion hotel concept to our city’s hospitality scene”. The resort, an investment of approximately HKD39 billion, was completed with the opening of Palazzo Versace Macau in its third tower.
The hotel adds a fashion-led address to the growing roster of design-driven properties in Macau, a short distance from the Cotai Strip’s other integrated resorts.
