The first phase centred on Grand Lisboa Palace Macau, the largest of the resort’s three hotel towers, with 1,350 guestrooms and suites, alongside dining, wellness, gaming, retail and event facilities.
The project represents an investment of approximately HKD39 billion. SJM chose a phased approach, with further venues and hotels rolling out over the following months rather than launching the whole resort at once.
The architecture draws on the monumental European buildings of the neo-Classical to Belle Époque periods, combined with traditional Chinese motifs. Inside the main hotel, the rooms take a Chinoiserie-inspired approach, with bespoke art pieces commissioned from local artists, while Jardim Secreto, a set of European-style gardens, sits at the heart of the complex.
Rooms at Grand Lisboa Palace Macau start at 60 square metres for a Deluxe Room, overlooking either the city or the gardens. At the top of the range, the Venus Suite covers 300 square metres with garden views. Guests have use of indoor and outdoor pools, the latter open seasonally in summer, and a 24-hour gym on Level 3.
The resort’s two other towers were conceived as fashion-branded hotels. Palazzo Versace Macau was planned as the Italian house’s first hotel in Asia, and THE KARL LAGERFELD as the world’s first hotel with interiors fully designed by the late couturier, each with around 270 rooms and its own restaurants and wellness facilities.
THE KARL LAGERFELD welcomed its first guests in December 2021, while Palazzo Versace Macau held its grand opening in March 2024, completing the resort’s hotel line-up. SJM’s leadership at the 2021 opening included chairman Daisy Ho, managing director Angela Leong and Grand Lisboa Palace president Paul Baker. The resort adds a new Cotai address for travellers heading to Macau.
