Garner Hotels Will Debut in Malaysia with Two Sabah Properties
Two Sabah properties will introduce Garner to Malaysia under an agreement with King Park Hotel.
IHG Hotels & Resorts is bringing Garner hotels to Malaysia through a two-property agreement with King Park Hotel, while also introducing IHG’s franchise operating model in the country.
Announced on September 23, 2026, the deal strengthens IHG’s presence in Sabah and gives its fast-growing midscale conversion brand a Malaysian debut.
Conversions open a new route for international growth
Garner is designed to convert existing hotels into an international brand relatively quickly. That makes it particularly relevant in markets where established independent properties can gain global distribution without the cost and time required for a completely new hotel.
The agreement is also notable beyond the two properties because it introduces franchising for IHG in Malaysia. That model can allow the group to expand more rapidly with local owners while maintaining brand standards and access to IHG’s reservation and loyalty systems.
For Sabah, the signings add further international-brand momentum to a region whose tourism appeal combines Kota Kinabalu, islands, diving and access to Borneo’s natural landscapes.
